Your thoughts don’t define you. Your OCD doesn’t define you. You are so much more.

OCD Treatment Through ERP and ACT

Virtual therapy for adults in Washington and Oregon

OCD can take over your time, your energy, and your relationships. You might know the thoughts don’t make sense and still feel unable to stop the rituals, the checking, or the endless mental review. You’re not weak, and you’re not alone, and OCD is highly treatable with the right approach.

What OCD Can Look Like

OCD doesn’t always look like handwashing or tidy shelves. It often shows up as:

  • Unwanted, distressing thoughts or images that feel out of character

  • Fears about harm, contamination, mistakes, or morality

  • Relationship OCD: constant doubt about your partner or the relationship

  • Checking, repeating, or avoiding to feel “safe” or “just right”

  • Seeking reassurance, or mentally reviewing and analyzing for certainty

  • Hours lost each day to thoughts and rituals

If you recognize yourself here, a mental health counselor can help you sort out whether it’s OCD and what treatment would fit.

How I Work with OCD

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

ERP is the leading evidence-based treatment for OCD. Together, we build a gradual plan to face the thoughts, situations, and uncertainty OCD tells you to avoid, while resisting the urge to do the compulsion that brings short-term relief. Over time, ERP helps your brain learn that the fear loses its power. You move at a pace we set together, and you’re never surprised by what’s next.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT works alongside ERP. It helps you change how you relate to intrusive thoughts, noticing them without wrestling with them or treating them as commands. It also keeps your values in the lead, so treatment isn’t only about reducing OCD but about getting back to what matters to you.

Why Both

ERP builds your ability to face fear and resist compulsions. ACT builds the flexibility and self-compassion that make that work sustainable.

What to Expect

  1. Start with a session. We talk through your symptoms, what OCD is costing you, and your goals.

  2. Map your OCD. We identify your triggers, compulsions, and avoidance patterns, including the subtle ones, like mental rituals and reassurance-seeking.

  3. Build your plan. Together, we create a step-by-step exposure plan and the skills you’ll use between sessions.

  4. Practice and progress. We work through the plan gradually, adjusting along the way. Practice between sessions is part of what makes ERP work.

Sessions are fully virtual, which is often an advantage, since exposures can happen in your real environment.

Fees and Insurance

I accept Premera, BCBS, and LifeWise for individual clients in Washington. Oregon clients are out-of-pocket, and I can provide a superbill for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Please verify coverage with your insurance company before your first session.

Common Questions

Do I have to have an official OCD diagnosis?
No. We’ll talk through your symptoms during our first sessions and decide together what’s the best fit.

Will you make me do things that terrify me?
No. ERP is collaborative and gradual. You choose your pace, and we never begin with your hardest fear.

Can you treat OCD if I’m also dealing with anxiety, depression, or relationship stress?
These conditions often overlap with OCD. We’ll talk through what you’re experiencing and build a plan that fits.

Do you work with teens or children with OCD?
Currently, I work with adults 18 and older.

Is virtual ERP effective?
Yes, virtual treatment works well for OCD, and practicing exposures in your own home or daily environment can make the work more relevant.
